Salon to host cancer fundraiser

Capelli Salon will be hosting a fundraising event and bake sale as part of pancreatic cancer awareness month. The salon will host a raffle, sell baked goods and purple awareness pins for a $5 donation. The salon also will be offering special hair and scalp treatments for a $20 donation. The event will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, November 19, during Third Thursdays, a monthly art walk in Old Town Newhall. All proceeds will go to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, for more information go to pancan.org.

Scholarship created to honor cyclist

The College of the Canyons Foundation has received a donation from Western Filter, a division of Donaldson Company, to establish a scholarship honoring a manager killed in a crash earlier this year.

George Velarde, head of the Physical Education department at Sierra Vista Junior High School, has been awarded a Gold Medal by the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness in a Sports Spotlight Award ceremony in Sacramento this week.

Saugus board member announces plans to resign

Saugus Union School District Board of Education Member Douglas (Doug) Bryce has announced that he will be resigning his position as a Board Member. Mr. Bryce has accepted a new job in the San Diego area and will be relocating to the San Diego area. In his new position, he will be working from home in Santa Clarita until he is able to sell his home in order to relocate to San Diego, at which point he will submit his official resignation from his Board of Trustees position.
