AAA offers tips for staying safe tonight

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety reports that the highest number of alcohol-related traffic fatalities occur on New Year's Day. Over the last New Year's holiday, 25 people were killed in collisions throughout California and more than 1,200 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence, the California Highway Patrol reported. The majority of those who died within CHP jurisdiction were not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Arrest: Sheriff's deputies bust man for heroin near Castaic Lake Park

On March 23, 2013, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies from the Parks Bureau Special Problems Team observed a male adult sitting in a parked truck with the driver's door open at the rear of a Motel, adjacent to Castaic Lake Park. The deputies noticed what appeared to be a hypodermic needle in the man's hand and it appeared he was about to inject his foot. The deputies detained him and identified the suspect as a resident of Valencia.

Hearings scheduled today, Thursday on expansion of forest

WHAT: Forest Service officials are seeking public comments and have set public meetings about a proposal to expand recommended wilderness areas in the Angeles National Forest by 40,000 acres. The proposal would protect additional areas from modern development and increase space for wilderness recreation such as hiking and horseback riding. It would affect seven areas in the forest. It also seeks to modify the way forest land management project results are evaluated.
