UPDATED: Officials call for voluntary evacuations in Castaic fire

As a fast-moving, 50-acre blaze in Castaic threatens homes, firefighters have asked some Castaic residents to evacuate.

Voluntary evacuations are in effect for residents south of Sloan Canyon Road and west of Parker Road, including Applewood, said Los Angeles County fire spokeswoman Stephanie English.

Crews douse fire along I-5

Fire crews work to knock down a quarter-acre brush fire alongside the south-bound Interstate 5 at McBean Parkway. The No. 3 and 4 southbound lanes were shut down briefly, but reopened at about 8 p.m., a CHP official said.
