SCV loses valuable volunteer

On December 25, 2008 - Jett's last birthday - Jett trotted into the bustling Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Emergency Room. Jett instantly spotted a sick and scared looking 3-year-old sitting on his dad's lap in the waiting room. The child's eyes lit up at the sight of Jett. The dog went straight to the boy and put his big head on the 3-year-old's lap. In that moment all fear was forgotten.

Driver sleeps, crashes into pole

A male driver fell asleep at the wheel, hit and broke an electrical pole on Soledad Canyon Road leading to a street closure for more than an hour late Saturday afternoon, according to a report from Lt. Robert Lewis of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Department.

Life and times of James Dean presentation

'Kite Runner' essay contest

Students who attend the Literature to Life presentation of "The Kite Runner" Sunday at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at the College of the Canyons will be eligible to enter an essay contest by comparing the performance with the novel. SCV Sheriff's team saves suicidal man from jumping off cliff

On Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at approximately 10:05am deputies assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station received a call for service regarding a 42-year-old male who was possibly suicidal. A short time later, the man's vehicle was located (parked) at Sierra Highway and Newhall Avenue. Deputies had reason to believe the man was now traveling on foot headed into an off road / rural area to possibly commit suicide.
