Man arrested for allegedly stealing metal in Newhall

Jonathan Feenny of Reseda was arrested Saturday in connection with the theft of metal pieces from a Newhall metal yard, according to a sheriff's official. Lt. Tom Bryski of the SCV Sheriff's Station said around 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feenny, 45, allegedly stole metal pieces from a business near The Old Road and Weldon Canyon Road in Newhall. After loading his truck with the goods, the man drove to a San Fernando Valley recycling shop to collect money for the pieces.

First Amendment Scholarship applications being accepted

The application package for the 12th Annual Randy Wicks Memorial First Amendment Scholarship is now available to graduating local high school seniors and students at College of the Canyons. The Santa Clarita Valley Press Club will award the Wicks scholarship to a local graduating high school student who has chosen a First Amendment-related college major.

Restraining order dropped on sergeant

A retired CHP sergeant who was convicted of attacking a Valencia jogger in 2007 had the restraining order against him dissolved this week, while the jogger was slapped with a restraining order, an attorney said Friday. After an all-day hearing in a San Fernando courtroom Thursday, Steven Gilbert was issued a restraining order to stay away from Dwight McDonald, according to McDonald's attorney, Ross Stucker of Santa Clarita. Program aims to generate interest in college

Nearly 300 receive degrees

Proud parents, friends and family members, most bundled up for the unseasonably chilly Southern California weather, gathered in the COC stadium Friday evening for The Master's College's 81st annual commencement service. Hart teacher resigns

City's future projects may be put on hold

A rocky state and national economy means Santa Clarita is not likely see funding allocated for any new big projects over the next year, city officials said this week. Due mostly to a drop in housing development revenue, city officials are expecting to see a 2 percent drop in total revenue in the 2008-2009 city budget, City Manager Ken Pulskamp said as he presented the preliminary budget at a council study session Tuesday.
