A burning Volvo ignited a five-acre grass fire along Interstate 5 north of Lake Hughes Road at 11:23 a.m. Thursday morning, forcing closure of two southbound lanes and snarling traffic for nearly 90 minutes.

L.A. County signs contract with new trash hauler

Stevenson Ranch and Castaic residents will have a new trash hauler beginning in November. Burrtec Waste Industries, Inc. will provide services to 15,000 customers in the Santa Clarita Valley's unincorporated areas starting on Nov. 1.
