Canyon Country man jailed after chase

A 28-year-old Canyon Country man was jailed without bail Wednesday after fleeing police in a stolen car, leading them on a high-speed chase that spanned from a downtown Los Angeles doughnut shop to Castaic, authorities said.

Hart board approves teacher contract

The Hart district board Wednesday approved a two-year agreement with its teachers union that would slightly increase class sizes and the ratio between students and counselors, along with a controversial boundary shift on the west side.

Hart district offers emergency text message service

Students, parents and community members who wish to be notified by text alert to their cell phones whenever there is an emergency in the William S. Hart Union High School District now have the ability to subscribe to the contact service through the district Web site at www.hartdistrict.org.

DUI checkpoint planned in SCV tonight

On Friday, June 6th, 2014, The California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint in the unincorporated area of Los Angeles County. The checkpoint will begin at approximately 6:30 pm and conclude at approximately 2:30 am Saturday, June 7th, 2014.

Local sheriff's deputies carry out probation sweep

On Thursday, June 5, 2014, deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station's Special Assignment Team (SAT) and the Summer Violent Crime Enforcement Program (SVCEP) conducted a multiple-location parole/probation compliance operation during the early morning hours. The deputies were accompanied by a Los Angeles County Probation Officer. This morning's operation included locations in Canyon Country, Saugus, Newhall, and Val Verde.

Military jet crashes into neighborhood

MPERIAL, Calif. (AP) - A Marine jet crashed into a residential area in a Southern California desert community Wednesday, exploding and setting two homes on fire. The pilot ejected safely, and there was no immediate word of any injuries on the ground.
