UPDATED: Magic Mountain-Old Road intersection closed through Tuesday

Construction activities for The Old Road realignment and Magic Mountain Parkway widening at Interstate 5 will close the intersection for a week starting this morning, according to the latest update from the city of Santa Clarita, L.A. County, Newhall Land, Metro and Caltrans.

Runners conquer beastly trail to feed hungry

With dripping hair and muddy shoes, hikers and runners made their way back down a trail locals call "The Beast" to the trailhead Saturday morning after climbing to a 3,864-foot summit. The 100 participants braved icy breezes and cold drizzle to collect more than $2,000 to benefit a special cause.

Brush fire burns 5 acres off Bouquet

A brush fire broke out at 3:37 p.m. Saturday in Leona Valley off Bouquet Canyon Road. By 4:45 p.m., Angeles Forest and Los Angeles County firefighters had knocked the fire down after it blackened five acres. Winds blew at 10 to 15 miles per hour but no structures were threatened, according to a Los Angeles Country Fire captain.

Oak tree dedicated to fallen coach
