Local dancer blends styles

Since the age of 5, Cristina Romero always has had a love of dance. Now 16, she is dancing as a member of the Grandeza Mexicana, a professional dance company based in Los Angeles. She started dancing as a member of the city of Santa Clarita's Ballet Folklorico at the Newhall Community Center.

Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet Company celebrates the depth and diversity of Mexican culture by presenting dynamic performances to audiences throughout Southern California with performances at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, both in Los Angeles.

SCV Sheriff's team saves suicidal man from jumping off cliff

On Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at approximately 10:05am deputies assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station received a call for service regarding a 42-year-old male who was possibly suicidal. A short time later, the man's vehicle was located (parked) at Sierra Highway and Newhall Avenue. Deputies had reason to believe the man was now traveling on foot headed into an off road / rural area to possibly commit suicide.
