Hart district hires 2 principals

The Hart school district has selected two of its own to rise in the ranks to principal positions at Golden Valley High School and Sequoia Charter School. Salvador Frias Jr., who has been an assistant principal at Golden Valley for the past two years, has been named the school's new principal, replacing founding principal Jacque Snyder, who is retiring this June. Kathy Hunter, program specialist for the district, will take the helm at Sequoia.

City ponders $1.2M property purchase

In its quest to clear the way for a new library in Newhall, the city of Santa Clarita is hoping to finalize the purchase of a 6,200 square feet of property along Spruce Street. On Tuesday, the City Council will consider giving staff the green light to spend $1.2 million to buy the property and 3,000-square-foot building currently occupied by White Light Chiropractic at 24519 Spruce St. in downtown Newhall.

Ouch! $4 gas is here

With Memorial Day weekend around the corner, the cost for a gallon of regular unleaded gas hit $4 this week in the Santa Clarita Valley, according to a weekly gas survey by Randy Cressall, owner of Valencia Auto Spa. The average cost of a gallon of regular unleaded stands at $4, according to the survey conducted Thursday.

Special education students don't always feel comfortable attending their school prom, so ASB students at Valencia High School are holding a prom just for them, complete with dinner, a DJ and dancing.
