Meadows students dominate in philosophy slam

The youngsters at Meadows Elementary School in Valencia are on top of their game when it comes to understanding global warming. Ten-year-old Hunter Shapiro-Throckmorton was given the title of "The Most Philosophical Fourth Grader in America" and 10-year-old Camryn Patterson was named "The Most Artistic Student in America" after submitting their award-winning entries to the 2008 Kids Philosophy Slam.

Continuing a cultural tradition

Motorcycle rider dies in solo crash

A solo motorcycle crash proved fatal Sunday morning, claiming the life of a 55-year-old motorcyclist driving northbound on Soledad Canyon Road near Agua Dulce, according to Officer Kevin Pack of the California Highway Patrol. Shortly after 10:45 a.m., the motorcyclist, whose name was not yet released by authorities, drove along Soledad Canyon Road when he apparently lost control at an embankment and veered off the road, according to Pack.
