Pride Week under way across city

The city's been pushing for a little extra pride this week, leading up to Saturday. It's Pride Week, a weeklong series of community involvement events that started Sunday and wraps up with Graffiti Wipe Out Day this Saturday. McKeon steps up to help Iwo Jima veteran

A decorated World War II veteran who served with the United States Marines and fought at the battle of Iwo Jima no longer owes the Department of Veterans Affairs almost $4,000 in overpayments after U.S. Rep. Hospital closing transitional care unit

The transitional care unit at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital is scheduled to close by June 5, a hospital spokeswoman said Tuesday. The 27-bed unit that houses mostly seniors recovering from their hospital stay will be converted to a 27-bed general medical surgical unit by the end of summer.

Trio arrested for allegedly stealing car

A Newhall traffic stop ended with three local residents arrested for allegedly having stolen the car and using it in several burglaries. Christopher Morejon, 20, of Canyon Country, Jaspreet Bassi, 29, of Newhall and Jacquelyn Hiner, 21, of Castaic, were arrested Friday night on Sierra Highway near the intersection of Placerita Canyon Road, according to a sheriff's report.

Thieves break into autos during prom

Several juniors and seniors stepped off the bus at Valencia High School after a memorable prom night on Saturday evening, only to find that their vehicles were broken into, according to Becky Shoberg, whose son attended the prom and whose truck was vandalized at the school. Babysitter sentenced to 8 years

A 21-year-old woman was sentenced to eight years in state prison on Monday morning, less than two months after she was found guilty of sexually assaulting an 11-month-old girl she was baby-sitting in a Canyon Country home. Sheriff's department promotes seat belt use

Between May 12 and June 1, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station will push for drivers and passengers to wear their seat belts as part of its "Click it or Ticket" campaign for California's occupant protection laws. As part of the three-week campaign, deputies will "aggressively enforce" seat belt laws for all vehicle occupants in order to help California achieve "the highest seat belt use rate in the nation."
