On Dec. 7, Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, there was not one mention from the posters (Letters to the Editor or local column contributors) or The Signal in its columns about this most important day in American history.
Thank God that the citizens of this country saw through the lies, racism and hatred that has spieled through the Internet about our president.
I for one am still waiting to find out what happened in Benghazi, but it is being masked by other lesser events.
To county supervisor: How dare you only have one public hearing regarding the new tax (oops.. fee) you are trying to foist onto we, your constituents, who are still trying to find jobs in Los Angeles County. Our jobless rate is nearing 15 percent. Predators, you are just like your super majority in the California Legislature ... we, the people, don't mean a thing. Remember, your governor, Mr. Brown, and last year's Legislature passed another ...
Editor's note: Signal staff, not city officials, are responsible for the caption. The Festival of Trees, from which the tree was generously purchased in support of Gold Star families and of the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley, calls its entries neither Christmas nor holiday trees.
Today I got an e-pamphlet touting all the wonderful new benefits, such as "free" well-woman services, that my insurance now covers.
Ever since mankind has been able to put something up, Mother Nature has been knocking it down.
In recent weeks we have seen the news flooded with "Zippergate" involving Gens. David Petraeus and John Allen, who have both had questionable relationships with some kind of military groupies.
The other day I went to the Old Town Newhall Library and saw an old friend from my past. Almost 50 years ago, right after high school, I spent three years in the Army standing side by side with the son of this Cold War warrior. I proudly carried his image on my shoulder: the Nike-Ajax missile. You can see him today behind the Old Town Newhall Library and next to the American Legion Post ...
Early last week I heard Gary Horton's column has ended. As to why, it remains unclear.

The Gaza-Israeli conflict and the fiscal cliff should take precedence over the Petraeus sex scandal. The conflict and the fiscal cliff have a major bearing on our lives at the moment. Not saying that the sex scandal is not important, but it should be put on the back burner for now. All efforts should be going to the Gaza-Israeli and the fiscal cliff problems in hopes to settle those problems! The Gaza and Israeli conflict ...
I want to wish all the unions of America a very well-deserved congratulations for being the primary instrument in getting 18,000 Hostess employees laid off at Thanksgiving/Christmas time. So much joy will be had by those employees while the slimy union thugs sit back in their warm, cozy houses and experience a large dining room table filled with all sorts of food paid for by the dues of laid-off employees. Movies are made of actions ...
There won't be a song about how our flag was still there, because it wasn't. Maybe stories of the battles that almost took place in Benghazi will come out soon. But the Sept. 11, 2012, terrorist attack at Benghazi was the strangest geo-political episode I can remember. I wish the journalists would get curious and find out what went on in this terrorist attack. From what I see, it starts with our embassy in Cairo ...
In a Feb. 22 Letter to the Editor in The Signal, Brian Baker claims that President Obama is a "socialist."
The recent movie "Lincoln" was highly acclaimed in this year's Oscar-considerations.
A key difference between Left and Right is that when the Right transgresses the freedom of others, it violates its own tenets.
Regarding Alice Khosravy's column "California is at bottom for business," (Feb. 22), Khosravy's excellent commentary was so clear and so factual citing a huge - if not t-h-e huge - problem that is at the core of California being on life support as a state, a once-thriving, enviable state.
The Boy Scouts of America need to allow gays into their organization because that is the moral imperative, if you will, toward "a more perfect union."
Leftists of late have become very defensive about being called socialist in their ideology, as typified by Kevin Buck's column (Feb. 19, "Straw men live in glass houses").
CNN news anchor Deb Feyerick recently asked "The Science Guy" Bill Nye if global warming caused the latest asteroid.
"Marriage" is shorthand for a specific legal arrangement between a man and a woman, just as "corporation" or "limited partnership" is a specific legal arrangement between shareholders, business partners, etc.
I was annoyed and saddened by a comment demeaning the Signal: "The Signal is biased, ignorant and often inept at reporting news."
