Upside-down flag a signal of distress, not disrespect

Offended by comments in flag article

Not only am I disturbed by this article, but I'm more disturbed that The Signal would actually publish the article titled "Flag mistake fuels anger" (Dec. 11, 2008). All this does is encourage the ignorant to voice their quick-mouthed, half-witted opinions.

Strickland is the one

I just read that State Senate candidate Tony Strickland received the endorsement of the Ventura Chamber of Commerce. The article included the California Chamber ratings for both Strickland and his opponent, Hannah-Beth Jackson. During their final year in the legislature, Strickland received a 100 percent rating from the chamber and Jackson had an abysmal 6.67 percent. At a time when local businesses struggle to survive and keep people employed, how can we afford to elect someone with such a poor record of supporting local businesses? We need someone who will put our state back on the right track and ...

Regarding "Teenager with gun removed from bus" (Oct. 2) by Melissa Gasca, Staff Writer: I don't know why it bothered me, but I feel compelled to ask why Ms. Gasca felt the father's attire (red 7-11 shirt and jeans) was important or necessary for this story?
