Let me begin by saying that I used to attend the so-called "Canyon Country" Community Action Committee meetings. I stopped going because it seemed to several of us at these meetings that it was all about the Whites Canyon area, except when they wanted to complain about signage at shopping centers or a particular business.
A Los Angeles Times editorial accused county Supervisor Gloria Molina of being "parochial" and an "obstructionist" because she advocates for protecting the regional distribution of revenue under the proposed sales tax measure.
On July 4, I read an article in The Signal titled "State feared insurance big guns." In summary, the article stated that Anthem Blue Cross had the largest number of rescissions "about 1,770" between January 1, 2004, and now. Having read this article, I turned a bright shade of purple. There is nothing that can destroy a family faster than to have their health insurance cancelled. Although the article does not say, I assume these ...
There has been a lot of talk generated over the term "urban center" - did our city manager say he wants to turn our suburban bedroom community into a legitimate urban center of its own, or was he incorrectly paraphrased?
The first rule of "urban centers" should be a line from the Hippocratic Oath: "First of all, do no harm."
Hannah-Beth Jackson claims that she is running as a "representative of the people" and that Republicans have not represented the 19th Senate District well.
I wonder what would happen if President Bush decided to sell a lot of the oil that he has in our reserves, say, for $75 per barrel. Just what would the buyers of futures in oil do? Maybe lose a lot of money?
The Honor America/Secure Our Border event on June 28 at the Santa Clarita Civic Center was a first.
In the past month I've read many opinions about why same-sex marriage threatens the institution of marriage. Frankly, I'm baffled.
Regarding Gary Horton's recent column ("One drop of blood in every gallon," June 25):
I recently was fortunate to go on a church-led trip to Yosemite National Park and experience its awe-inspiring beauty first hand.
A big "thank you" to the City of Santa Clarita for all the new street signs! They are easy to read, and look great with the city seal included in the design. Thank you for these helpful additions to city intersections.
Vinton Lampton's assertion that only New Orleans residents and Democrats deplored Katrina ("God bless the tough Midwesterners," Letters, July 6) reveals that he is deaf to all but Republican indoctrination.
On Sunday, June 29, a letter was read at all Mormon worship services worldwide calling on members to contribute their time and money to help pass the California initiative this November that would limit marriage to different-gender couples. The letter, from the Office of the First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, said, "The Church's teaching and position on this moral issue are unequivocal. Marriage between a man and a woman ...
Since the debtor is still in possession, the debtor, Newhall Land will still be paying the salaries of its executive officers, while those to whom they owe substantial debts must bite the bullet.
Kevin Buck believes "Jesus would be a liberal Democrat".
With a heavy heart I am compelled to write this letter to the editor on the anniversary date of the Iraqi War.
Yes, many cars in Europe of the same make and model have higher mpg ratings than their U.S. counterparts. The U.S. and Euro testing standards differ, as do the tuning specifications (such as fuel/air and ignition timing, computer mapping).
In my humble opinion, the only way the U.S. Postal Service will survive is to STOP service one day a week. The question we all should be asking is not whether to stop service one day a week, but which day of the week.
I would like to respond to Kevin Buck's column "Jesus Would Be a Liberal Democrat" (March 20, 2013).
Can anyone explain to me why it takes a minimum of five sheriff's deputies to greet Lindsay Lohan at curbside and escort her to the courtroom?
Charlie Vignola takes a page from Stephanie Cutter's playbook in blaming Republicans for the bad health and eventual deaths of his parents.
Editor's note: On March 19, The Signal published a story about a woman whose wallet was stolen by someone hiding beneath the racks of a clothing store while another person distracted the victim. Following is an edited version of readers' postings on the online version of the story.
In response to the column "Jesus would be a liberal Democrat" (March 19), it's always easy to use, or misuse, Jesus to make a political point, although good taste dictates against it.
In Mr. Patton's piece "Red states should be careful what they wish for" (March 22), his conservative critique of liberalism is as fact-free and unsupported as nearly all conservative points seem to be today.
After a great many conversations and debates about gun control, there are still a great many members of Congress bowing to the NRA lobby because they want to protect their political futures more than they want to protect us against gun violence.
While driving in Santa Clarita I have noticed some techniques that appear to be unique to the culture here.
I used to live in Santa Clarita. I moved to the Bay Area about nine years ago but still check in on The Signal occasionally.
