More study needed on drug testing

To The Editor: On March 27, The Signal reported that Hart School District officials, after facing considerable opposition from parents and faculty, are still in limbo concerning the implementation of random student drug testing (a practice that is becoming more common in America) in an attempt to deter drug use.

Vote Obama, forget McCain

In what alternative universe does Stephen Winkler reside ("Think before you vote," Letters, April 24)? Hillary Clinton is the Democratic party candidate and John McCain is a liberal Republican?

Web site kudos

To The Editor: I've been enjoying The Signal's Web site. Really terrific. Sharon Cotal recently wrote an article about our school ("Christian high schools offer options," April 14, 2008), and it was fun to see it not only on the front page but also up on the Web site.

Darn that Signal

After 24 years, I am amazed, sad and disgusted about the changes that have been going on with The Signal over the last several months. Where is The Signal, our local paper? Instead of a paper whose articles should be about what's happening in the SCV, I get a mess of here, there and everywhere. I will be changing papers when my subscription expires.

'Do as I say, not as I do'

Recently two local Republicans announced they would be writing commentaries for The Signal in addition to Monday's "Right Her Right Now." These two men, Steve Lunetta and Paul Strickland, have different styles but both write excellent commentaries. The news of their more frequent submissions is gratifying on a couple of fronts. One, The Signal is pretty much dominated by the left six days out of seven (nationally and locally) and two, Messrs. Lunetta and Strickland ...

Hart is trying hard

To The Editor: I couldn't agree more with Dave McEachern (April 15). We can do more for our gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students. Indeed, we should have no tolerance for bullying and name-calling.

A happy homecoming

To The Editor: I am reminded on a daily basis what an amazing place Santa Clarita is to live and raise a family. Every time I drive by a local, award-winning school, every time I shop at the ever-improving mall or eat at an excellent restaurant, and every time I meet a new, friendly community member, I am reminded that Santa Clarita is the most amazing place around! Today was a day that, more than ...

Differing views

The Signal's Opinion Page of the March 14, 2013 issue shows forethought and good planning in printing two columns on the same subject but with the authors having completely different views on the matter. That subject is the recent 13-hour filibuster by Senator Rand Paul and the authors are SCV columnist Steve Lunetta and syndicated columnist Joe Gandelman; conservative and liberal respectively.

Letter: Enough with the taxes already

The California Board of Equalization has just approved a 9.7 percent increase in the excise tax on gasoline, raising the total excise tax to 39.5 cents per gallon. This added to all the other taxes on gasoline sales will have us paying over 70 cents per gallon in tax. On top of this we pay license fees on our vehicles which are a tax as well and like many people I thought all of this money was for roads.
