MRF needs support

To the Editor:

I appreciate Kathy Thompson pointing out my misstatement concerning the zoning of the proposed Materials Recovery Facility site on Sierra Highway. ("MRF Zoning Contradiction," March 1, 2008.) Current zoning on 42.46 acres of the site is indeed zoned Business Park, not Industrial as I had stated.

Real-estate agents need not apply

To the Editor:

A note to all real-estate professionals who are aspiring to public office: think again. The California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) investigation against Santa Clarita City Councilman Bob Kellar is a stark reminder of government's intrusions into the private affairs of those seeking elected office.

Unpatriotic questioner?

To The Editor:

I have never run for office, nor do I intend to do so. And now that I hear once you declare your intention to run you give up your right to question those in office, well, I'm sure happy I haven't.

City's Priorities Askew

A Deaf Ear on Iraq

To The Editor:

As preparation for the war in Iraq, our president and his advisers asked our generals for recommendations on this matter. They advised that they needed more troops than Rumsfeld had suggested. They said winning the war was no problem. More troops were needed to win the peace and secure that nation's stability and recovery.

PAID CANDIDATE ENDORSEMENT LETTER:Vote for Mercado Fortine for City Council

On April 8, citizens of Santa Clarita will have the opportunity to elect GLORIA MERCADO FORTINE to our City Council. I have known Gloria and members of her family for more than 40 years. In my opinion, she is the exact type of person our City needs at this time!

Conserving water

I was thinking: Why do we have to cut down on our water usage by 20 percent while the city tears up the center dividers and plants more trees, flowers and bushes?

Billboards and the need for speed

I just read Councilman Bob Kellar's "Blight of Billboards" in the Feb. 23 Opinion section of The Signal, wherein Mr. Kellar strongly endorses the idea of trading the removal of 118 billboards in the city for the installation of three large electronic billboards along Highway 14 and Interstate 5.

Let’s desalinize for all the water we need

I am in favor of desalinization plants up and down the coast of California. The governor needs to drop this train to nowhere and instead get on board with a new source of water.
