This is in response to an article I read in the Aug. 6, 2008, Signal titled "Online Marketing: You could do it, too!"
A few weeks ago I discovered Ken Keller's "Inside Business" column in your Wednesday edition of The Signal. I have to say, as a local businessman myself, that Ken's insights are sound, tried, and true.
What are the essential ingredients to successful governance?
I am writing to thank you and the assistant city editor, Katherine Geyer, for the ongoing coverage you have given the Smart Growth SCV struggle against the for-profit medical office buildings proposed on the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital site.
My husband and I have called Valencia our home for the past 10 years and have seen a lot of growth from the construction of new homes, new retail stores and a variety of restaurants.
A few random thoughts occurred to me while recapping various recent reports from local and national media.
We are more anxious than 94.4 percent of the people in Mexico and nine times more likely to experience anxiety than Chinese laborers.
It wasn't hard to miss a recent large, unflattering color photo of Cindy McCain, along with an equally unflattering commentary. Unknown to many of us, apparently there is some mandatory onus on Mrs. McCain, that should she become first lady she "must use her past drug addiction for the benefit the masses."
I just wanted to remind everyone there is still a problem at Newhall Ranch Road and McBean Parkway.
The recent revelation that G&L Realty contributed $30,000 to a committee that in turn spent $29,000 to support Laurie Ender's election (a vocal proponent of the hospital's growth plans) raises a question: Has big-city influence spending made its way big time to our small city?
I am always pleasantly surprised when I go to another fantastic production put on at the Canyon Theatre Guild.
The Signal wrote on Aug. 2, "Hospital investor donated $30,000 to Ender." Is anyone else outraged by this? I am!
This is in response to a local commentary written by Cal Planakis on July 29. Ms. Planakis in one of those many sniffling citizens who are the first to attack or "re-evaluate" Prop. 13 whenever the state falls into financial straits.
A new library in downtown Newhall is most needed.
The Signal's recent editorial on California's budget crisis (Aug. 3) was really off the mark.
There's nothing wrong with Mr. Lunetta questioning and challenging the assertions of the REMI report that a revenue-neutral carbon fee would have positive economic benefits as well as reduce greenhouse gas emissions (June 26, "The carbon tax has flaws").
The State of Islam has been declared by ISIS or ISIL. Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is the leader of ISIS.
I want to give big kudos to the Santa Clarita City Council past and present, the city manager and everyone involved in making the city bike/walking/running trails the fantastic network they are today.
It's nice to see a positive article on the front page of The Signal about Shane Vereen ("Vereen brings it back," June 22).
Once again, Councilman Bob Kellar slams his constituents by saying that many who signed the petitions to overturn the council's decision to permit digital billboard on our freeways were not fully aware of the full details of the proposal ("Billboard matter will be put to a vote," www.signalscv.com).
Our city and local school districts should sue Shenkman & Hughes to force the Malibu-based law firm to stop its suits alleging bias in our election process unless they can prove discrimination against minorities.
I just wanted to point out the need to overturn the Citizens United decision of the United States Supreme Court in 2010.
On the rare occasion I see a sheriff's car in the area and can access the deputy, I thank them for their service and for driving my street, West Del Monte Drive.
During the recent Board of Trustees meeting at College of the Canyons, several board members expressed their surprise at the landslide "no" vote on the proposed full-time faculty contract.
Regarding the battle that is being fought on College of the Canyons' campus, I would like to take the opportunity to explain what the full-time faculty is seeking: equity and respect.
I read in The Signal where George H. W. Bush, father of the infamous George W. Bush, "celebrated his 90th birthday on Thursday by making a tandem parachute jump."
In regards to all the recent 20-year anniversary of the O.J. case coverage, in my humble opinion, you did not have to watch one minute of the O.J. trial. All you had to understand was intercollegiate athletics.
I appreciate Jim Holt's presence at the College of the Canyons Board of Trustees meeting last Wednesday and his subsequent article, "COC showdown" (June 12).
Regarding the controversial release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, below are some of the responses of President Obama to this issue:
The latest assignment some sixth-grade students got in one of our local schools is "Atrocities committed by our troops in Vietnam."
