Take it like a Republican

I sure am proud to be a conservative Republican. Yes, I voted for Senator John McCain and was disappointed with his loss. However, on Jan. 20, President-elect Barak Obama will be my president and I will respect that no matter what and will pray every day for him. His success equals ours.

That old political game

Gary Horton ("Free at Last! At least for the majority," Nov. 11) lamented the passage of Proposition 8 and lambasted the Mormon and Catholic churches for supporting it. He suggests that neither church has the moral authority to participate in an election concerning marriage.

Parking issue

When I read the article in The Signal about the Goldstein family and their parking complaint (Nov. 15) I laughed for five minutes. Then I decided to set the record straight.

Henry Mayo’s services must be expanded

Mary Ann and I have lived in this valley for more than 40 years and in the last 10 years have relied heavily on Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for our health services. It is not an overstatement that our hospital saved my life at least once and arguably twice.

Hospital expansion must fit Valencia dream

The issue of the expansion of the Henry Mayo (Newhall Memorial) Hospital campus and its "master plan" will soon be presented for City Council approval. There are serious questions as to the impartiality of certain council members with regard to this action. I have always believed in the integrity of the individuals that are elected to represent the best interests of their constituents, but I recognize that often misinformation, misrepresentation and misguided values can also blind common sense.

Tired of the GOP Party

Reading Steve Lunetta's Uncle Earl column ("Uncle Earl's view on the election," Nov. 20) summed up what is wrong with the Republican Party: a loss of ideals, finger-pointing, idle gossip, fear-mongering and a considerable state of denial.

Bigger, faster, flashier

We have been brainwashed by the automobile industry in telling us that we have to have bigger, faster and flashier cars.

What if you walked into a store to purchase something and you saw a sign over the item you want that read, "This item is marked UP 18 percent or 20 percent or 28 percent or more"?

Wilk goes against voter wants

I received correspondence from Scott Wilk recently saying why he didn't support SB 27, which requires nonprofit organizations to disclose the names, addresses and employers of donors of $1,000 or more when their funds are used to make contributions or expenditures of more than $50,000 in any one year, or more than $100,000 over four years.

Billboards and the need for speed

I just read Councilman Bob Kellar's "Blight of Billboards" in the Feb. 23 Opinion section of The Signal, wherein Mr. Kellar strongly endorses the idea of trading the removal of 118 billboards in the city for the installation of three large electronic billboards along Highway 14 and Interstate 5.
