MRF needs support

To the Editor:

I appreciate Kathy Thompson pointing out my misstatement concerning the zoning of the proposed Materials Recovery Facility site on Sierra Highway. ("MRF Zoning Contradiction," March 1, 2008.) Current zoning on 42.46 acres of the site is indeed zoned Business Park, not Industrial as I had stated.

Kudos to deputies

To the Editor:

It is not often that our law enforcement officials are recognized for their hard work and professionalism. For this reason, I felt compelled to write this letter of appreciation.

Real-estate agents need not apply

To the Editor:

A note to all real-estate professionals who are aspiring to public office: think again. The California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) investigation against Santa Clarita City Councilman Bob Kellar is a stark reminder of government's intrusions into the private affairs of those seeking elected office.

Your apology to Mayor Bob Kellar and Sharon Dawson should have been on the front page of The Signal.

Most controversial?

To The Editor:

It was interesting to read in The Mighty Signal that TimBen Boydston was selected to receive the SCV Press Club's Most Controversial Newsmaker of the Year Award for 2007. The term "most controversial"

Unpatriotic questioner?

To The Editor:

I have never run for office, nor do I intend to do so. And now that I hear once you declare your intention to run you give up your right to question those in office, well, I'm sure happy I haven't.

City's Priorities Askew

To The Editor:

Having read a variety of Signal articles recently, I have been both amused and irritated with the irony regarding several construction projects planned in our fair city.

A Deaf Ear on Iraq

To The Editor:

As preparation for the war in Iraq, our president and his advisers asked our generals for recommendations on this matter. They advised that they needed more troops than Rumsfeld had suggested. They said winning the war was no problem. More troops were needed to win the peace and secure that nation's stability and recovery.

Base Hart districts on the high schools

In my humble opinion, the most straightforward, simplest answer to the William S. Hart Union High School District going to board member representation by areas/districts would be to add two board positions.

Let’s use our solar energy for our water

It seems incomprehensible that with the great shortage of water for this state, trillions of gallons of water lie off the cost and remains unused by those affected most.

Snake alert

Recently, I was driving in my neighborhood when something caught my eye crossing the street in front of me. A very large gopher snake was booking it across the hot asphalt from left to right.

We deserve better

John Boehner is the Speaker of the House of Representatives. He leads the House of Representatives as majority leader. Senator Mitch McConnell is the minority leader of the Senate. He's been attacking the President for the last six years unsuccessfully!

July 20, 2014 | Dana L. Stern Sr. Canyon Country | Letters to the Editor

Let's be civil

I agree with Gary Horton (Opinion, July 9). It seems though that our country is less civil. If I speak of our President, I will state "our President" or "Mr. Barack Obama."

July 20, 2014 | Anne Marie Whalley Canyon Country | Letters to the Editor

Mind the speed limits and rest in peace

Since this is the time when a great many Santa Clarita families will be hitting the road on vacation, I thought I should share my recent experience with readers.

City needs to say ‘yes’ to sick pay for part-time employees

The Signal reported on July 10 ("Bill would mandate sick pay for part-time employees") that the City Council voted to oppose Assembly Bill 1522 as the "...estimated financial impact to the city as a result of the bill could be as high as $180,000 per year."

July 15, 2014 | Susann Rizzo and Cliff Fletcher Valencia | Letters to the Editor

Is it time for artificial turf?

I am sure the rebates on low-flow bathroom products has reduced water consumption considerably.

July 13, 2014 | Dick Ramirez Valencia | Letters to the Editor

Time to withdraw the troops

I believe that we need to withdraw troops in Iraq now. It is a mistake for any troops to be there, and they are there in great peril.

July 13, 2014 | Dana L. Stern Sr. Canyon Country | Letters to the Editor

Tell the truth, Ms. Dupuy

Against all billboards

First of all, I am absolutely against all of the billboards in the Santa Clarita Valley - including the ones along the Metro right-of-way. I am also against the digital sign boards along the freeways.

Hooray for concerned U.S. citizens like Brian Baker

Brian Baker's column published in The Signal June 30 ("The IRS is far from earning back our trust") is spot on!

Many more bike trails in the works for Santa Clarita

A recent letter writer complimented Santa Clarita's trail system and inquired as to whether the city will be adding more trails, specifically near the Newhall Ranch Road underpass.

An open letter to motorists of the Santa Clarita Valley

Speeding, cellphone calling, texting, tail-gating arrogance, complete disregard for the other motorist and other numerous unsafe practices while driving that cause accidents - these have been my contention in many letters to the editor that I have submitted to The Signal.

July 06, 2014 | By Lois Eisenberg Valencia | Letters to the Editor

Let’s not expand our need for water during drought times

The city of Santa Clarita's response to my letter (June 23, "When will the city water medians responsibly?") regarding watering, the saving of water and new landscaping was full of details.
