Boston's Talent Wasted

To The Editor:

Having lived in the SCV and been a subscriber to the Signal since 1973, I am very familiar with John Boston. Some of his writing was witty and brilliant.

Missing John Boston

To The Editor:

I don't know why The Signal parted company with John Boston, but now something is missing.

Troops in Iraq for the Wrong Reasons

To The Editor:

My only disagreement with Mr. Colman's letter ("Please Vet Stories," Feb. 24, 2008) is this perpetuated myth that our servicemen fighting in Iraq are there "risking their lives in Iraq for our freedom." There are a lot of reasons why we're there, but "our freedom" isn't one of them.

Heads-Up for Heads Up

To The Editor:

As many of you are aware, on Feb. 16, the Jim Tindell Bowl-a-Thon for Heads Up was postponed. It was not a planned event and you could say that it was just rotten luck. The event was being hosted by the SCV-Newhall Optimist Club and there were over 80 people there ready to bowl.

April 29, 2008 | By Michael Holt, President, Heads Up Valencia | Letters to the Editor

Have Some Backbone

To The Editor:

It was amazing. At 6:30 on Tuesday morning, it was the sound of hysterical laughter as community members in Castaic read the Tuesday edition of the paper. The Hart School Board is going to do a survey to see if Castaic needs a new school or if another school might need a performing arts center.

April 29, 2008 | By Becky Green-Marroquin Castaic | Letters to the Editor

Kids Need a Place to Skate

To The Editor:

I don't understand our city leaders and planning department. Why not build a new skate park before tearing down the old one? Our young people need a place to skateboard.

Boston's Talent Will Be Missed

To The Editor:

Apparently great writing talent and an incredibly subtle, witty sense of humor doesn't count at the "new" Signal. Who chased off Mr. Santa Clarita, John Boston? Was that a corporate smooth move or just one of those dumb things that big- city newspapers do when they don't know how to deal with a truly talented, award-winning member of the staff who helped build the newspaper to what it has become today?

McCain's Environmental Record

To The Editor:

I was appalled to lean that John McCain was the only senator who two weeks ago chose to skip a crucial vote on the future of clean energy in America - dooming the measure to fail by just a single vote.

Defeat of School Bond

To The Editor:

It has been awhile and we're still getting nasty letters and e-mails from the proponents of Measure V. They all seem to have the same theme: "You opponents of the school bond hate children, want them to go to shacks for schools, kick your dogs, etc." Or "Now that you've defeated the bond, what are you going to do for ME?"

Please Vet Stories

To The Editor:

Re: 'US Military Kills Iraqi Couple' (February 6, 2008): Why is The Signal so quick to indict our soldiers? Let's see the facts before you convict them of murder in a headline.

April 26, 2008 | Barry Colman Saugus | Letters to the Editor

In Support of Farley

To The Editor:

The Santa Clarita City Council only chose and appointed pro-open space people to the open space oversight panel. What a surprise!

City of L.A. Right on Newhall Ranch

To The Editor:

Although I rarely agree with the position that the L.A. City Council takes on most issues, their stance on the Newhall Ranch project makes a lot of sense to me.

Missing John Boston

To The Editor:

How do you replace John Boston...They didn't make two of him! Santa Clarita has lost another piece of its individuality. We miss you John, and the fun you brought to all of us for all these years. The Signal is left with a huge hole and no one to fill it!

April 26, 2008 | By Roger and Becki Basham Santa Clarita | Letters to the Editor

Fibromyalgia Is Real

To The Editor:

Your Op Ed "The Controversy over Fibromyalgia" (Campos, Jan. 28, 2008) was very disconcerting. I've heard from many members of our local fibro support group and the comments were varied - disbelief, discouragement, anger.

April 26, 2008 | Karen Jeffries Co-Leader, Santa Clarita Valley Fibromyalgia Support Group | Letters to the Editor

Unadulterated Drivel

To The Editor:

Unadulterated drivel. How else does one describe the commentary "Huckabee Remarks Deserve Attention" by John Crisp (Feb. 21, 2008)? I am not sure what Mr. Crisp does in the English department at Del Mar College, but I certainly hope he is there as a student.

Ah, if it were only possible

I read in The Signal where George H. W. Bush, father of the infamous George W. Bush, "celebrated his 90th birthday on Thursday by making a tandem parachute jump."

O.J.: All about intercollegiate athletics

In regards to all the recent 20-year anniversary of the O.J. case coverage, in my humble opinion, you did not have to watch one minute of the O.J. trial. All you had to understand was intercollegiate athletics.

Daniel Wani, an American citizen living in New Hampshire, was not able to celebrate Father's Day with his wife and two tiny American children.

COC needs to speak with honesty and fairness

Jim Holt's June 10 article "COC faculty rejects contract" attempted to offer a fair view of the dissension that has developed between college administrators and the full-time faculty.

June 18, 2014 | Wendy Brill-Wynkoop Department Chair, Photography, College of the Canyons | Letters to the Editor

An Eisenberg fan

For many years, Lois Eisenberg has written awesome letters to the editor for The Signal. She combines great thinking and great writing in her letters to the editor.

Bergdahl’s a deserter

In his column today (June 10) entitled "Charlie Vignola: G.O.P. smears P.O.W.", Vignola launches into his usual anti-conservative anti-GOP invective, this time over the Bergdahl affair. It's just more of Vignola's signature ranting.

June 15, 2014 | By Brian Baker Saugus | Letters to the Editor

Is our government balanced or imbalanced?

Even during the original ratifications, implementation of procedures and policies in our government faced changes to the Constitution (or Articles of Confederation, March 1, 1781).

The entire liberal edifice rests upon the premise that the unrestrained free market doesn't work in meeting certain essential societal needs.

June 10, 2014 | By Rob Kerchner Valencia | Letters to the Editor

Let’s hear it for government climate intervention

It was just so exciting to read how the White House and EPA will save the planet despite those nasty and ridiculous global warming and climate change deniers.
