Council needs new blood

There are two openings on the City Council. It is time to fill Bob Kellar's opening with a qualified candidate such as Diane Trautman.

A testament to Trautman

Trautman speaks for seniors

To The Editor:

The city of Santa Clarita has evolved over the past two decades with worthy expansion and development. As we move toward the future, though, the viability of our infrastructure will depend on those who recognize balance between our social and economic needs. Until now, the needs of our senior population have largely been ignored.

They should know better

To The Editor:

It seems "fashionable" for some members of Santa Clarita's City Council to claim stupidity when they get caught with their hand in the cookie jar. It appears as though all a person has to say when they get caught is: "I'm sorry, I didn't know the law," or "I may have violated state law."

Kellar's above reproach

The Signal's recent reporting of Mayor Bob Kellar's omissions on state disclosure forms is unnecessarily slanted to suggest these omissions are nefarious, versus mistakes or oversights.

A vote for Trautman

To The Editor:

Your vote on April 8, for the City Council election is important. It is the opportunity to support leaders who carry your vision, share your values, reflect your ideas and thoughts about the needs of the city of Santa Clarita, and demonstrate a willingness to listen to constituents.

Squirming under scrutiny

To The Editor:

After reading recent Signal articles about our esteemed city councilman Bob Kellar (regarding Form 700 income disclosure) and Frank Ferry (regarding campaign mailers for Bob Keller and Laurie Ender), I am forced to come to one of two possible conclusions:

Mayo expansion as bad as Las Lomas

To The Editor:

What struck me while reading a recent article about Las Lomas was a quote from our own Lisa Hardy. Lisa is one of many who "rightfully" oppose this proposed development. Her quote in the article was, "It is so grossly incompatible with its surroundings, it violates every principle of urban planning."

To The Editor:

I am writing in support of Laurie Ender for City Council. The citizens of Santa Clarita will benefit greatly by electing Laurie Ender to the City Council on April 8.

Yacht tax?

To The Editor:

:In Ms. Wright's letter ("Republicans: Foes of Education," March 14, 2008) she insinuates that the Hart School District budget deficit was caused by the Republicans' reluctance to do away with the so-called "Yacht Tax." It would be best to know exactly what this tax really is.

Looking for answers at tonight’s City Council meeting

Tonight is the third and probably last meeting to discuss the electronic billboard issue at Santa Clarita City Hall at 6.p.m. The first two meetings lasted until around midnight with an overwhelming number of attendees (in the hundreds) voicing opposition.

Complications, questions linger in billboard issue

The March 20 Signal article "SCV billboard proposal hits a snag" points out still another reason not to proceed with the ill-advised plan to erect digital billboards on the Interstate 5 freeway and Highway 14: a change of zoning would be necessary.

Doublespeak and fringe rhetoric

The "Drawing Conclusions" cartoon published in The Signal on March 18 is a perfect example of the doublespeak that comes so easily from the fringes of both left and right - and the stupidity of the voters who don't even bother to think about what they're hearing.

Tracking the elusive ‘jump head’

This may be trivial. I enjoy reading The Signal except for one thing - your style on "jump heads."

Sprinklers and corporate citizenship

Saturday at noontime, in the hottest time of day, we passed a large green stretch of land with sprinklers going full blast. I guess they couldn't wait till night.

Campaign blight

During each City Council election cycle the citizens of Santa Clarita are subjected to a plethora of campaign blight on public property created by candidates who are asking for voters to entrust them to represent their interests in our beautiful community.

On April 8, citizens of Santa Clarita will have the opportunity to elect GLORIA MERCADO FORTINE to our City Council. I have known Gloria and members of her family for more than 40 years. In my opinion, she is the exact type of person our City needs at this time!
