A high school in my backyard is OK

With regards to the front page article published Oct. 18 stating "Val Verde residents oppose Castaic High School site," I am a Val Verde resident and support the location for the high school in the industrial center.

Vasquez High failed student, family

The Vasquez High School principal states that Vasquez High School has a zero tolerance for bullies. If there truly was a zero tolerance policy in place, the bullying of the boy that committed suicide would not have continued on a daily basis.

Eliasberg's editorial is illogical

In response to the editorial "Snippets? Associations? Who is Barack Obama?" (The Signal, Oct. 24): Mr. Eliasberg leads what he believes is a logical response to Obama's political moves, such as his snippets argument and denial of guilt by association. While these methods may be politically motivated, we should also examine what Mr. Eliasberg says about Mr. Obama.

Hey, America, listen to Powell

Take heed, America, and listen to what Colin Powell, Secretary of State 2001-2005, retired general, and a Republican(!), had to say about why he is endorsing Barack Obama for President of the United States and why he is not endorsing John McCain.

Knotts is for fun, not politics

I was extremely disappointed at the skewed and ignorant political mockery that went on during the Knotts Scary stage shows.

Measure SA: Clarifying misapprehensions

In his Sept. 28 column, Tim Myers addresses the Measure SA bond without the benefit of contacting my office or me directly. I wish he had given me the opportunity to review Measure SA with him and clarify many of his assumptions.

Scrutinize Obama, not the plumber

I read the story that "Joe the Plumber" is not actually a licensed plumber. This guy asked a simple question and now he is being attacked.

Tim Myers is too offensive

As an independent still trying to decide, I try to read as many opinions as time allows.

Who's the racist in this argument?

Tim Myer's column (Oct. 19) would be positively breathtaking if it weren't so laughably predictable.

On Saturday, Oct. 4, three local Boy Scouts, Jonathan Sprott, John Kasum and Benjamin Kasum were elevated to the rank of Eagle, becoming part of an elite group that has produced many great leaders.

Government charity starts at home

As we grow older, none of us can be certain we won't find ourselves at some point needing assistance to help us pay the rent, mortgage, utility bill, medical bill or some other bills that come up. Senior members among us are struggling to do just these things. Many are on fixed incomes. Others simply don't have the means to meet the basic needs.

Prop. 8 opponents intolerant?

For the second night in a row, our "Yes On Prop. 8" yard signs have been stolen from our front yard. I find it very hypocritical that the liberal groups that support gay marriage call people who vote for traditional family values "intolerant," when they themselves don't allow for free speech when it disagrees with their views.

Prop. 8 opponents oppose free speech

Wow! So this is where we are in our society? Last night my "Yes on 8" yard sign was stolen from my front yard. This doesn't surprise me, however, given the type of people that would not support Prop. 8. If Prop. 8 is defeated, then this is just a glimpse of the suppression of free speech to come. You can be sure that B. Hussein Obama and the rest of the "Dims" will try to further suppress the voice of those who stand for traditional values. To all the Christians out there, it's time to stop being ...

City, take a stand against petition blockers

I know there are quite a few people in the SCV who can remember back to the '40s, '50s and '60s during the big strikes that some of the big companies had - and how violent they were.

A new poll released this week by the Better World Campaign has found that even during this polarizing political time, there is one issue that voters agree on: the U.S. can't go it alone to solve the world's problems.
