Hospital plan bad for Santa Clarita

Hope and change are the buzz words of 2008. Obama's presidency will ultimately be judged on its effectiveness at producing positive results. In the same way the City Council and G&L Realty's hospital expansion plan will be judged.

Hospital expansion

The current proposal to expand Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital does not make sense. The City Council should do all in its power to modify it until it does.

Why Obama?

Sarah Palin - reason enough!

Nothing new with Palin

Surely voters are tired of elected representatives who lie to them, waste taxpayer money and don't take care of business.

Kudos to the council

I am writing in response to Pam Ross's letter regarding the City Council's meeting about the diverter at Benz Road.

Say it ain’t so, Joe

Within the last two weeks, the self-proclaimed maverick Sarah Palin has managed to stir her supporters into a frenzy of paranoia and intolerance reminiscent of the McCarthy era.

She’s out of touch

Sarah Palin purports to be a "Joe Six-Pack" kind of person who understands the "average" American citizen.

Say no to Measure SA

Voting "no" on Measure SA is the sensible thing to do.

Of winners, losers and American sports

I listened to (Wednesday's presidential debate) between innings of the baseball game. The Dems said they won; the Republicans said they won.

GOP becoming irrelevant?

With their registrations sinking and their political clout withering, California Republicans have come out of the November election in danger of slipping into political irrelevance across much of the state.

SCV off the grid through HOAs

Now that we're past an election in which most Republican and Democratic candidates ran on platforms that promised switching to renewable energy, I feel it is time for those politicians and the communities they serve, as well as the city of Santa Clarita, to begin the work of transformation.

Issue is security, not pit bulls

Regarding the incident involving the pit bull at Valencia High School, I don't know any of the parties involved (including the dog).

Let gays marry their loved ones

I'm writing to voice my opposition to Proposition 8, which would take away the right of same-sex couples to marry. I'm not gay, but I believe the law should treat people equally.

Rod could teach Angels how to bat

Sorry, Angels fans. They had a great year, but until the manager goes into the archives and pulls out the films and shows them to his team, they will never be hitters.

America needs to change its energy policy

I don't know about you, but to me, reducing the threat of climate change would best be accomplished by having good flood control, stout construction, a reliable water supply and affordable energy - Not by following leaders who think we can reduce the threat of climate change by stopping the change.

Average Americans dress like bums

With perhaps the exception of church services (and even some of them need the following counsel), I have noticed that the average American - even at work - dresses like a bum, no pride in one's attire at all. Ragged blue jeans coupled with ragged tee-shirts dress most of our Santa Clarita residents, these days.

Promote self-sufficiency and strong marriages

Fifty years ago, President Lyndon B. Johnson delivered his famous "War on Poverty" speech, purposing "to cure it and, above all, to prevent it." Unfortunately, like our other wars in the last half-century, this one has not lived up to its noble ideals.
