Perhaps a bit late, but I would like to suggest that Congress allow taxpayers to deduct up to $1,000 of credit card interest on their tax returns. Buck (McKeon), can you make that happen?
Congratulations to the city on its excellent traffic study for the future of Santa Clarita 20 and 30 years down the road.
Let the smears begin. It certainly didn't take long for the McCain campaign to attempt to sling mud at Obama. Having Sarah Palin make a comment about his palling around with terrorists is just another desperate attempt to take the public's eyes off of McCain's erratic behavior during this time of economic crisis. We have been through this before. Obama was not close to Bill Ayers and has denounced his radical views and activities.
Well, the local Republicans seem to be up to their same old dirty tricks.
With both our state and national economy in crisis, it's always interesting to hear local candidates talk about their economic plans and visions. In the important race for the California 19th Senate seat, Democratic candidate Hannah-Beth Jackson has been totally unwilling to address this issue.
It has finally happened. Stevenson Ranch, in taking a cue from the fictional television show "Weeds," has now officially turned into Majestic, the religiously biased community bent on taking over what was the beautiful town of Agrestic.
The bailouts are tantamount to government takeovers of major U. S. industries. Obama and some senators are already planning corporate restructuring and deciding which executives should be fired and how much the remaining ones should be paid.
I am responding to the letter to the editor on Dec.8 from Cori Leffler regarding the American Beauty Classics Homeowners Board of Directors' decision on the squirrel poisoning.
I understand there is a new business opening up in Newhall. Can you ask Mr. Boston if there will be any openings?
How pathetic is it that a paper like The Signal will do anything to get headlines, and some people are so starved for attention that they will malign a person, an organization or even a whole system?
Is it just me, or is there a one-sided tilt on the way this pit bull issue is perceived at Valencia High School?
I'm a resident of the Cordova mobile home park and attended the hearing at City Hall on the evening of Dec. 3, the first-ever hearing appealing a rent increase.
Hope and change are the buzz words of 2008. Obama's presidency will ultimately be judged on its effectiveness at producing positive results. In the same way the City Council and G&L Realty's hospital expansion plan will be judged.
The current proposal to expand Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital does not make sense. The City Council should do all in its power to modify it until it does.
Sarah Palin - reason enough!
Fifty years ago, President Lyndon B. Johnson delivered his famous "War on Poverty" speech, purposing "to cure it and, above all, to prevent it." Unfortunately, like our other wars in the last half-century, this one has not lived up to its noble ideals.
This letter is in response to the letter of Nancy A. Meister ("Affordable Care Act: A success story," The Signal Jan. 17.)
I believe in Gary Morrison's passion, but not his facts ("Fiddling while climate change damages the Earth" Jan 12 Signal).
I am one of those folks who signed up for the Affordable Care Act. It was my first time on the open health care market, since I always had health care provided from employment, either mine or my spouse's.
Regarding The Signal's Jan. 6 front-page article, "Burglaries on the rise in SCV this past year," I would like to point out that all is not necessarily as it appears.
I honestly don't believe that Democrats and Republicans will ever sit down and compromise on anything. The simple act of governing for all of the people seems to be impossible.
