Plan for lowering gas prices

Boycotting gas does not work. Everyone needs gasoline to live, so let's not boycott gasoline. Get as much gasoline as you need.

Marriage ruling’s unintended consequence

Now that California's liberal judges have once again erased the will and intent of the voters in ruling to make gay marriage legal, let's see if they have the same fortitude and tenacity for what they would call an "unintended consequence."

Support our hospital's master plan

The closing of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital's Transitional Care Unit (TCU) is an important step in the improvement of health care and acute patient care in the Santa Clarita Valley. Our seniors (and I am one!) will not be ignored or rejected. The TCU closing means they will get faster treatment in the emergency room and will get quicker acute care with more available beds. If the community really wants more hospital beds, closing the TCU guarantees that in short order - 27 more acute care beds!

Thank you, Santa Clarita Valley

It's only through the kind donations of others that the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry can help feed the people in our valley who are considered "food insecure" - those who must skip meals, or eat non-nutritional foods just to satisfy their hunger.

HCFS information could be misleading

We commend Driftwood Dairy for reducing the calorie content of its line of flavored milks offered to students in Southern California public schools ("Chocolate milk now healthy for students," May 18).

A call to conscience for the seniors

There's a lot I can't do for the elderly. I can't cure them. I can't feed them. I can't give them shelter.

Proud to be an American

Proud, grateful and privileged to have voted by mail on Friday 4/4/14.

Who gives the most to charity: conservatives or liberals?

The Letter to the Editor by Rob Kerchner (Defining difference) in the March 27 Signal is both unjustified and prejudicial. Unless Mr. Kerchner has telepathic powers, how could he possibly know what all "liberals" or most "liberals" or even one particular "liberal" may be thinking when it comes to whether they want the government, private enterprise, or little green Martians to duplicate in this country something they see overseas?

Those political signs

In regards to the political signs, I feel they are equivalent to graffiti. They are a complete eyesore and a possible safety hazard. Why are they even allowed?

PAID CANDIDATE ENDORSEMENT LETTER: Alan Ferdman for City Council

The Santa Clarita City Council election of 2012, in hindsight, was a transitional election.

No Weste, Young Man

I have carefully considered the endorsement of Laurene Weste by the The Signal's Editorial Board published on March 16, 2014, and I feel stongly that it must be challenged.

PAID CANDIDATE ENDORSEMENT LETTER:Support for Gloria Mercado Fortine

On April 8, citizens of Santa Clarita will have the opportunity to elect Gloria Mercado Fortine to our city council. I have known Gloria and members of her family for over 40 years. In my opinion, she is the exact type of person our city needs at this time!

PAID CANDIDATE ENDORSEMENT LETTER: Marsha McLean, Always Available to Citizens

Unlike many cities in California, Santa Clarita is in great shape with a balanced budget and a 17% reserve. We maintain a reserve to be used in emergencies such as earthquake or fire. I believe in an open, transparent government, I believe in integrity and respect for our citizens. I practice those beliefs every day.

‘Noah’ — it’s just a movie

People (of SCV and others), get over it. "Noah" is a film. A Hollywood film.

Electronic billboard rush to judgment

In the "Our View" editorial on Sunday, March 30, The Signal editorial board questioned the city's reason for rushing for a final vote on the electronic billboard issue.

April 02, 2014 | Mike McSkane Newhall | Letters to the Editor

Why red-light cameras here?

It seems to me that if any city would need to have red-light cameras set up, it would be Los Angeles.

Don’t be taken in by Iran’s false diplomacy

Iran is a theocracy, which means it is led by its religious leaders. The Iranian people are a religious people.

We need more transparency in our elections

So sad to see another state legislator, Leland Yee, accused of criminal political corruption.

PAID CANDIDATE ENDORSEMENT LETTER: The Need for New Blood on the City Council

To clear up any confusion, let me began by saying that I personally paid for this letter of endorsement to be published. It is a somewhat unusual policy to have to pay for an opinion letter, so I want the readers to know that it was I who paid for the opinion, and not the other way around.

Defining difference

When a conservative sees a product or service he likes overseas, he often thinks, "Someone needs to start a business and bring that to my area. Hey, maybe I could start it myself!"

March 27, 2014 | Rob Kerchner Valencia | Letters to the Editor

Consumers, take charge of the billboard issue

I fail to see what all the billboard hullabaloo is about. It's obvious these vast slabs of advertising are a visual blight.
