Trautman speaks for seniors

To The Editor:

The city of Santa Clarita has evolved over the past two decades with worthy expansion and development. As we move toward the future, though, the viability of our infrastructure will depend on those who recognize balance between our social and economic needs. Until now, the needs of our senior population have largely been ignored.

They should know better

To The Editor:

It seems "fashionable" for some members of Santa Clarita's City Council to claim stupidity when they get caught with their hand in the cookie jar. It appears as though all a person has to say when they get caught is: "I'm sorry, I didn't know the law," or "I may have violated state law."

Kellar's above reproach

The Signal's recent reporting of Mayor Bob Kellar's omissions on state disclosure forms is unnecessarily slanted to suggest these omissions are nefarious, versus mistakes or oversights.

A vote for Trautman

To The Editor:

Your vote on April 8, for the City Council election is important. It is the opportunity to support leaders who carry your vision, share your values, reflect your ideas and thoughts about the needs of the city of Santa Clarita, and demonstrate a willingness to listen to constituents.

Squirming under scrutiny

To The Editor:

After reading recent Signal articles about our esteemed city councilman Bob Kellar (regarding Form 700 income disclosure) and Frank Ferry (regarding campaign mailers for Bob Keller and Laurie Ender), I am forced to come to one of two possible conclusions:

Mayo expansion as bad as Las Lomas

To The Editor:

What struck me while reading a recent article about Las Lomas was a quote from our own Lisa Hardy. Lisa is one of many who "rightfully" oppose this proposed development. Her quote in the article was, "It is so grossly incompatible with its surroundings, it violates every principle of urban planning."

A vote for Ender

To The Editor:

I am writing in support of Laurie Ender for City Council. The citizens of Santa Clarita will benefit greatly by electing Laurie Ender to the City Council on April 8.

Yacht tax?

To The Editor:

:In Ms. Wright's letter ("Republicans: Foes of Education," March 14, 2008) she insinuates that the Hart School District budget deficit was caused by the Republicans' reluctance to do away with the so-called "Yacht Tax." It would be best to know exactly what this tax really is.

Connecting with the liberal mind

With regards to Linda McCaskill and Curt Scott's criticism of Rob Kerchner's claim to know what liberals are thinking, I guess I have to agree with them, because I often wonder "What in the world are they thinking?"

Apathy is alive and well in the SCV

I have always said, as my dad would say, "If you don't vote, then keep your mouth shut."

What about the car drivers in motorcycle accidents?

Robert Burton wants to ban motorcycles from public streets because of the many accidents and even fatalities involving motorcycles, and because he saw a rider riding on the back wheel only, and because motorcycle riders cost our state many dollars in hospital bills.

Where’s the money going?

On a recent bus trip to a remote area of Mexico, we were asked to buy basic school supplies for a remote village school.

The smart votes on SB52 were from the Republicans

A recent letter-to-the editor ("We need more transparency in our elections," April 1 in The Signal) authored by a Democrat, chided Republicans in general and Assemblyman Scott Wilk specifically for the failure to pass "Disclose Act, SB52," purportedly a bill intended to put sunlight on "dark money."

Water cutbacks should be required of all

I seem to have been living in a bubble that was not transparent. As I have been hearing for the past few years, and more so recently, we, the state of California, have been and are now in a very serious drought.

Faulty mind-reading

Kudos to Linda McCaskill's riposte ("Who gives the most to charity?" April 7 in The Signal) to Rob Kerchner's claim to know what "liberals" are thinking (Defining difference," March 27 in The Signal.

Open Letter to Hassan Rouhani, President of Iran

America is a peace loving country. America along with the United Nations supports human rights in all countries on the planet. The people of America are behind our president. President Barack Obama has tried to improve relations between our countries.

Who gives the most to charity: conservatives or liberals?

The Letter to the Editor by Rob Kerchner (Defining difference) in the March 27 Signal is both unjustified and prejudicial. Unless Mr. Kerchner has telepathic powers, how could he possibly know what all "liberals" or most "liberals" or even one particular "liberal" may be thinking when it comes to whether they want the government, private enterprise, or little green Martians to duplicate in this country something they see overseas?

Those political signs

In regards to the political signs, I feel they are equivalent to graffiti. They are a complete eyesore and a possible safety hazard. Why are they even allowed?

PAID CANDIDATE ENDORSEMENT LETTER: Alan Ferdman for City Council

The Santa Clarita City Council election of 2012, in hindsight, was a transitional election.

No Weste, Young Man

I have carefully considered the endorsement of Laurene Weste by the The Signal's Editorial Board published on March 16, 2014, and I feel stongly that it must be challenged.
