Local dance teams place in national competition

Dancers from the Santa Clarita Valley traveled to Anaheim at the end of March to participate in the 2012 USA Nationals Dance Competition. Teams from Canyon, Hart, West Ranch, Saugus and Valencia high schools competed in a variety of events and brought home some major awards, including USA Nationals Grand Champion. Mitchell Elementary students celebrate Colonial Day

Fifth-graders at Mitchell Community School spent March 30 in a celebration of Colonial Day. The hands-on experience allowed the students to become immersed into the colonial times of American history by doing activities that were common then. Trinity Classical Academy students, ranging from fourth-graders all the way to the high school seniors, entertained numerous Trinity families as they presented the "Talent of Knights" variety show. School hosts science fair

About 40 Pinecrest School Valencia students took part in the school's annual science fair on March 23. A total of 41 students in grades 3, 4 and 5 participated in the fair and about a dozen students took home medals. The winning projects focused on plants, engineering, physics, temperature, solar energy, dental hygiene and the five senses.

Hart hosts Camp Darfur

Early in the morning on March 12, the Human Rights Watch Student Task Force chapter at Hart High School was hard at work, setting up Camp Darfur on their campus. Placerita dancers show off their moves at contest

Placerita Junior High School placed third at the High Desert Dance Classic in the Dancing Feet Youth Ballroom program held at Antelope Valley College on March 10.
