Home-schoolers meet to discuss ‘Magic Tree House’ book series

The Magic Tree House Book Club holds a monthly meeting for kids from ages 5-12 to discuss one of the books in the "Magic Tree House" series written by Mary Pope Osborne. The club meets at the Richard H. Rioux park in Stevenson Ranch. So far the group has discussed book one, "Dinosaurs Before Dark" and book two, "The Knight at Dawn." This month's book is book three, "Mummies in the Morning."

Local dance teams place in national competition

Dancers from the Santa Clarita Valley traveled to Anaheim at the end of March to participate in the 2012 USA Nationals Dance Competition. Teams from Canyon, Hart, West Ranch, Saugus and Valencia high schools competed in a variety of events and brought home some major awards, including USA Nationals Grand Champion.

School hosts science fair

About 40 Pinecrest School Valencia students took part in the school's annual science fair on March 23. A total of 41 students in grades 3, 4 and 5 participated in the fair and about a dozen students took home medals. The winning projects focused on plants, engineering, physics, temperature, solar energy, dental hygiene and the five senses.
