Students fundraise for Sandy victims

A group of Highlands Elementary School students, some who had relatives affected by Superstorm Sandy, came together on Nov. 11 and held a bake sale to assist victims of the disaster.

Final Mile Program hits the schoolyard

Rosedell Elementary students participated in the Santa Clarita Marathon's Final Mile Program. Students logged 25 miles over a period of eight weeks. They were then invited to run the final mile of the Santa Clarita Marathon to complete their personal marathon.

The Trinity Classical Academy 12th grade United States government class, taught by Chris Leigh, assisted by Liz Caddow, had the opportunity to hear from both sides of our political spectrum in a spirited debate featuring leaders from both the Democratic and Republican viewpoint, less than a week before election day.

‘Monster School’ on stage at Fair Oaks

Halloween was over, but monsters still roamed the multipurpose room at Fair Oaks Ranch Community School in Canyon Country on Nov. 7. "Monster School" - an original comedy written by the founder of the Stagecraft after school enrichment program at Fair Oaks Ranch, Dennis Poore - was performed for parents, family and friends at a 7 p.m. performance held on the school's MPR stage.

‘Gotta Regatta!’ contest winners announced

Winners from the "Gotta Regatta!" creative essay writing and poster contest were announced at the 10th Annual Rubber Ducky Festival on Oct. 27. Students from throughout the Santa Clarita Valley participated in the contest, which was sponsored by the Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers Inc.

TLC students hold breast cancer day

When my group of students from the Transitional Learning Charter School in Newhall was at Help The Children, one of my students asked about the "pink stuff." This was the perfect teachable moment. I shared the meaning of why the "pink stuff" related to breast cancer and the students came up with the idea of TLC having a "Pink Day."
