Valencia High hosts EcoFest on Sunday

Valencia High School's Environmental Protection Agency Club will be hosting the Santa Clarita Valley's first EcoFest from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday on the main campus walkway.

This unique event is intended to bring the Los Angeles community together for an afternoon of fun while exploring sustainable living through greener, healthier living options.

Young authors publish poems

Fernando Marroquin's poem, "I am From ..." tells about his home country of Guatemala, his family, and his friend Arturo, who loved basketball like Romeo loved Juliet and was murdered by gang members about a year ago on a basketball court, right in front of Fernando.

About seven months ago Fernando moved to the United states from the "red zone" in Guatemala City, the most dangerous part of Guatemala, and never dreamed he'd be a published author in his new country - or in his new language.
