Shadow puppets, monsters and a monkey seeking immortality were highlights of the vibrant performance "Monkey" by sixth-grade students recently at Charles Helmers Elementary School.
Pinecrest fourth-graders perform puppet show
After Laurie Keller's students at Pinecrest Valencia read the book "By the Great Horn Spoon," the class decided to do a puppet show based on the story.
Living history: Heritage Junction
Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society docents led tours of the Saugus Train Station, the Kingsley House, the Edison House, a one-room schoolhouse, a tiny chapel and the Mitchell Adobe. Students dressed as children did in the past, the girls in pinafores and the boys in suspenders and caps. The field trip was the culmination of a "living history" unit, and all costs were paid for by a grant from Azusa Pacific College and the Southern California Historical Society.
Dads and daughters dine and dance
My daughters and I look forward to this event every year - we call it the D4, Daddy-Daughter-Dinner-Dance.
Child actors honored
Two child actors from Valencia were honored for their positive contributions to the entertainment industry during a March 15 C.A.R.E. (Child Actor Recognition Event) award ceremony at Universal Studios Hollywood.
High Desert Dance Classic
Placerita Junior High School students took home the first-place trophy during the High Desert Dance Classic March 14. The couples spent eight weeks rehearsing merengue, tango, cha cha, waltz and the West Coast swing. Placerita Junior High was the only school from the William S. Hart Union High School District to participate in the competition.
Trinity Classical Academy students describe their annual Middle Ages Faire

I am currently an eighth-grade student at Rio Norte Junior High School. Last September, I heard on the morning announcements during homeroom that the Resourceful River Hawks Community Service Club was having their first meeting of the year at lunch time. Vibrant colors captured attentions as fourth-grade students spun about and caught hands in a traditional medieval dance on Friday, one of many spectacles at Trinity Classical Academy's Middle Ages Fair. Each fourth-grader portrayed a different character from the Middle Ages and reenacted how they would have talked and acted.
