Valencia poet honored

Madeline Kehl, 12, of Valencia, received an honorable mention award in the February 2009 Cricket League poetry competition. For the contest, students submitted song lyrics relating to a story titled "The Star Shard," which appeared in Cricket magazine.

Students try 'Jack' for crimes against giant

Wiley Canyon Elementary School organized a mock trial on April 21 as a way for the students to become acquainted with the judicial system using familiar stories as a basis for their trial. The fifth- and sixth-grade Wiley GATE (Gifted and Talented) students based their case on the trial of "Jack and the Beanstalk." Jack Jones, or in the case this year, Jackie, is on trial for breaking, entering, theft and murder.

Monticello Spring Musical presents 'Peter Pan' and 'Annie Get Your Gun'

Monticello Prep presented its Spring Musical on April 24. The show included condensed versions of both "Peter Pan" and "Annie Get Your Gun." Harriet Dickens played Peter Pan and Olivia Sowers played Tiger Lily. Christian Cranert was seen as Captain Hook and Griffin Krumrine played Mr. Smee.
