Rancho Pico holds food drive

Rancho Pico Junior High School students and staff collected more than 2,700 items for the SCV Food Pantry before the end of 2009. Canned food and other items were collected in a holiday campaign coordinated by the Library Book Club and the library staff. The pantry showed its gratitude for the donation by sending a thank-you letter asking the school to repeat its generous food drive.

International Day a hit at Pinetree

Pinetree Community Elementary School parents Mitsue Dragsdorf and Yuka Dowell, along with students Arianna Dowell and Clayton Dowell, represent Japan during the school's International Day. The parent volunteers led an activity where they wrote students' and teachers' names in Japanese. Nearly 10 countries were represented at the event in December.

Plum Canyon hosts Reflections contest

The Plum Canyon Elementary School PTA hosted the Reflections art contest in November with 28 winners out of 203 entries. The school had winners in five of the six categories, as there were no entries in musical composition.

Helmers students get a day at the opera

Mrs. Candib's fourth-grade and Mrs. Doing's sixth-grade classes performed an opera called "The Marriage of Figueroa" alongside a cast and crew from the Los Angeles Opera. This opera is based on the famous opera, "The Marriage of Figaro," by Mozart.
