Highlands donates to Three Angels

A little girl clutched her coin jar, peeking in to see if the amount had mysteriously grown. She was helping Haiti children with her coin jar - one penny at a time. Highlands Elementary School recently sponsored a fundraising event supporting the organization Three Angels Children's Relief. InvestWrite contest winner

Rio Norte Junior High School seventh-grader Shriya Bahri recently won first place in the Los Angeles area for the middle school division as part of the InvestWrite essay competition produced by The Stock Market Game program. Through her Introduction to Computers class, Shriya was able to play the Stock Market Game, which allows youngsters to invest in companies and learn about trading and publicly traded companies.

Placerita students honored in essay contest

Ricky Noaveas and Denise Reynoso of Placerita Junior High School took first and second place for their essays on the Santa Clarita Valley, "A Season of Diversity" in a poster and essay Contest. More than 500 students in the SCV from elementary school through high school submitted essays or posters for this event. This year's theme was, "How has someone from another culture inspired you?" Junior high ballroom dancers receive honors

Placerita Junior High School's two ballroom dance teams placed second and fourth at the High Desert Dance Classic on March 13 in Lancaster. Placerita is the only William S. Hart Union High School District school to offer an afterschool ballroom dance class. This year's program had an enrollment of 22 seventh-graders, doubling the number of students in the program last year.

Wealth of Health Week benefits

Health Week at North Park Elementary came to a close with a strawberry relay race on March 19. The physical event capped off a five-day focus on improving students' physical and mental health, Principal Pete Bland said.

Birthday parties at Skate Park

The city of Santa Clarita is now accepting reservations for birthday parties at the City's Skate Park. Held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturdays from April through mid-October, the parties allow residents to rent out the popular Skate Park for a private, two-hour birthday bash.

Valencia residents Merit Leighton, a 7-year-old actress, and her sister Marlowe Peyton, a 5-year-old actress and singer, were honored with a Child Actor Recognition Event (CARE) Award during a red-carpet ceremony at Universal Studios Hollywood on March 14.
