Plum students win art awards

Vampires aren’t the only ones crazy about blood

Northlake Hills Elementary School set the national record for the most units of blood collected at a one-day elementary school blood drive. The school collected 163 units of blood from staff and parents between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Oct. 2 at the school's campus, topping the previous record of 151 units.

Tina Telio: Making a difference with a photo

A trip to a Saugus recycling center with her mom last fall inspired a local elementary school student to take a picture that eventually won top honors in a national Parent-Teacher Association-sponsored photo competition.

When she saw a stack of clear plastic bags full of recyclable plastic water and soda bottles, "It was all different colors and looked like an explosion," said Santina Telio, then a third-grader in Ms. Robinson's class at Mountainview Elementary in Saugus.
