SCMC glides past the field

Amidst the 28 teams and 140 competitors on hand for the Santa Clarita Masters Short Course Yards Meet on Saturday, 26 members of the Santa Clarita Masters Club ensured the valley's local team came home with the overall victory. Led by key wins in the women's 1,650-yard freestyle, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 individual medley and various relays, SCMC won the meet with a total of 1,861 points.

Around the SCV: Golden Valley senior shines

Golden Valley senior soccer player Natalie Lagunas stole the show on Thursday. Substituting into the game in the 61st minute for Mexico's Under-20 Women's National Team, Lagunas scored the game-winning goal late in a 2-1 victory over Trinidad & Tobago in the opening round of the CONCACAF Under-20 Women's Championship. Two local men to be honored

Two men with local ties are being inducted into the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame alongside baseball superstar Ryan Braun and Los Angeles Laker Jordan Farmar on Jan. 30. Golden Valley head baseball coach Scott Drootin and Saugus resident and paddle tennis player Sol Hauptman are two of 13 sports-related people being inducted at the Skirball Cultural Center and Museum.
