Tyler Vanderzee's 5-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Michael Edwards with 10 seconds left to play tilted a seesaw battle in the winning direction for Mt. San Antonio College in a battle for the ages against College of the Canyons in the Southern California Football Association Championship.

Mt. SAC place-kicker Jacob Harfman drove home the extra point to give the Mounties a one-point lead.

Big game to get to bigger game

In 2007, three points was all it took for the College of the Canyons to miss out on a chance to play for the Southern California championship.

COC lost to Bakersfield College in overtime 48-45, ending its postseason aspirations and the chance to compete for another state title.

Mustangs dominate Eagles

The Master's College women's soccer team went on the road to take its Golden State Athletic Conference opener on Saturday, winning 3-0 over Biola University in La Mirada.

Midfielder Andie Reyes, forward Katie McMannis and Emily Bruton each scored one goal for the Mustangs (1-0 in GSAC, 6-2 overall).

A goal scored by Fabio Joaquim in the 79th minute prevented a loss by The Master's College men's soccer team on Saturday, in a 1-1 tie in double-overtime at Biola University in La Mirada.

Cougars battle through Warriors

It was community college football's version of an all-out war as College of the Canyons and El Camino College squared off in the Southern California Playoff Semifinals.

COC quarterback Brad McClellan turned in a career game while surviving a half-dozen bone-jarring sacks, Ricky Drake delivered three clutch field goals and Hayo Carpenter caught nearly everything throw in the 661 area code as the Cougars upended the Warriors 36-27 Saturday night at Cougar Stadium.

As College of the Canyons head football coach Garett Tujague argued for some of his players to make the All-Western State Conference teams at the post-regular season conference meeting, two players were notably up for discussion.

Tujague's peers thought Jonathon Hollins and Dejuan Yates were the same guy.
