Wildcats edged out of playoffs

West Ranch boys soccer was eliminated from the CIF-Southern Section Division III playoffs Friday after a 1-0 loss at Montclair Prep.

The Cavaliers (21-1-2) tallied the game's only goal in the 15th minute and fended off several Wildcat (11-7-5) attempts in the final 60 minutes.

Centurions bound for second round

Manny Padron snuck a shot into the net in the 109th minute Friday and Saugus opened the CIF-Southern Section Division III playoffs on the road with a 2-1 victory over Paramount.

After tying 1-1 through the end of regulation, neither team scored in the first two overtime sessions. The game then moved to a pair of sudden death overtime periods, and Padron scored late in the first.

Calm under pressure

With the game on the line, Canyon's chance to advance to the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division III boys soccer playoffs rested on Cowboys sophomore Jordan Markovich.

The goalkeeper diving right, Markovich sent the ball low, left and to the back of the net in the 80th minute, giving Canyon a 1-0 win over Lynwood at Harry Welch Stadium on Friday.
