Don't sleep on the Grizzlies

Chris Printz had a tough time sleeping this spring. After his Golden Valley boys basketball team went 0-10 in the Foothill League, the blame crept to the head coach's doorstop. He can sleep a little easier now, following the Grizzlies' 4-1 run in the War on the Floor Tournament that culminated in their 64-59 win over Clovis East on Tuesday to win the Silver Championship. "Last year we were a very young team," Printz said. ...

Stars of summer

It wasn't the sight of a typical Foothill League matchup between Valencia and Saugus. But it's summertime and the start of the VIBL season so competition isn't too thick-not yet at least. Nonetheless, spectators, coaches, and players got a glimpse of what the make-up of spring 2009 baseball teams will look like. Saugus edged the Vikings, 8-7, on the Centurions home field on Wednesday. "Standings-wise, wins and losses these games aren't that important," Saugus head ...

Passing league a time for growing

Grow up fast. That's the message Valencia football coach Larry Muir sent to his team. With four returning starters on defense and five on offense, the Vikings have a lot of growing to do. Ditto for Canyon and Hart, who took part in a passing league scrimmage, along with the Vikings and Oaks Christian at Valencia High School Wednesday night.
