Cents break ground

Three games into the Foothill League boys soccer season, the Saugus Centurions had yet to hold a lead in a Foothill League soccer game - yet they were undefeated in league play.

In their fourth game, the Centurions finally took a lead and maintained their undefeated record by winning their first league game 3-2 over Canyon at Saugus High on Friday afternoon.

All-CIF teams announced

Eight members of the Foothill League were honored as All-CIF-Southern Section Northern Division selections last week, while eight members of Santa Clarita Christian were named to the All-CIF-SS Eight-Man Football team from Division I.

Headlining the honors were Saugus quarterback Desi Rodriguez, who was named the Offensive Player of the Year in the Northern Division; SCCS running back Collin Keoshian, who was the Player of the Year from Eight-Man Division I; and Cardinals head coach Garrick Moss, as the Coach of the Year.

Desi commits to Air Force

Saugus quarterback Desi Rodriguez verbally committed to the Air Force Academy earlier this month following a home visit from Falcons defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter.

"The education is like an Ivy League school, and I get to play football in Division I. You can't beat that," Rodriguez said.
