Cardinals ride the mo’

Momentum in sports is a powerful force. Just ask head coach Matt Wilkins and his Rolling Hills Prep Eagles. After overcoming the din of the small gymnasium at Santa Clarita Christian to take a 22-21 lead in the first game of the CIF-Southern Section Division V-AA playoffs on Thursday evening, an emotional switch turned things completely around. After an out-of-bounds hit tied the score, SCCS went on to score four straight to pull out the ...

The growth of Shane Vereen

When do you know when you've truly become a man? There's no experience, like reaching the top of a mountain, that tells you. It's not when hair grows on your chest for the first time. It's a process. And this valley has watched much of Shane Vereen's process. It started when he burst onto the scene as a sophomore running back at Valencia High. One can now see the process on television or in person ...

A new pinnacle

In comparison to many of the other sports played in the Foothill League, girls golf is still in its early stages. Much of its 10-year history comes from individual success - names like Alexis Arnold, Melanie DeLeon, Stevy Loy and Jasnin Samson, girls who fulfilled their promise in high school and gained college scholarships.

At a certain point, Tanner Tengberg realized he was just another face in the crowd. Or at least that's how he saw it. Right around the end of his sophomore year of high school, Tengberg, now a senior outside hitter for Hart volleyball, had an epiphany. He knew that if he wanted to continue his volleyball career beyond high school, no one was going to notice another 6-foot-5 hitter who described himself as lanky. Tengberg ...
