My father-in-law bought my 5-year-old son a chef's jacket for stirring a pot of soup the other day, and now the kid thinks he's Wolfgang Puck, cooking "masterpiece meals" made from Tinker Toy pieces.

The annual Silver Spur Celebration is one of the swankiest events a resident of the Santa Clarita Valley can attend. The 2009 recipients of the College of the Canyons Silver Spur Award for Community Service, Harold and Jacquie Petersen, are two of my favorite people.
The other day, my 5-year-old son came to me with two cars in his hands, one for him and one for me. He asked if we could race around the living room like old times. I told him we couldn't. He was sad. I was sad, too.

It seems that the fans of daylight-saving time have prevailed over those of us who rather like standard time. I'm rather tired of changing my clocks forward and back all the time. Can't we just choose one time and stick with it? I hope everyone remembered to set their clocks back an hour and have arrived to where they need to be this morning on time.
