Newhall School District lays off 16 teachers

On May 3 the Governing Board of the Newhall School District took action to lay off 16 permanent status general education classroom teachers in response to continuing projected budget cuts. In previous action earlier this year the district laid off 14 temporary classroom teachers. The board also took action to freeze hiring for one open administrative (assistant principal) position for next year.

CHP task force to pursue DUI warrants

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Driving under the influence (DUI) continues to be a major traffic safety problem in California, as evidenced by the more than 210,000 arrests statewide in 2009. Those arrested are expected to appear in court and be held accountable for their actions. The task force created by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is one way to hold those individuals with DUI warrants accountable.

Reperatory East Playhouse marked for musical, 'Cabaret'

One of the most recognized and celebrated musicals of all time will make its mark on the Repertory East Playhouse on May 13. State's unfunded early release costs L.A. County near $10 million

Disney film raises funds to protect African wildlife
