Rollover crash snarls traffic on Interstate 5

California Highway Patrol officers investigate the scene of a solo rollover crash involving a Ford Explorer on the shoulder of northbound Interstate 5 south of Calgrove Boulevard in Newhall on Monday afternoon. Authorities issued a Sig Alert and closed the right lane of the freeway shortly after noon Monday as the investigation was conducted. The driver of the Explorer was transported to a local hospital, authorities said.

Car turns over on southbound Highway 14

The female driver of the Geo Metro sedan escaped from the vehicle with minor injuries, authorities said on the scene.

Plumbing problems at the plant

A broken joint on a water line at the Saugus Water Reclamation Plant caused a tall geyser of water that was visible from Bouquet Canyon Road on Tuesday morning. The water line gushed for about an hour, witnesses said. All the water traveled into on-plant storm drains, and will be reused. The water line is used to wash tanks in the plant, according to a Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts official.

Fire consumes cab of big rig on Interstate 5

Firefighters clean up after knocking down a fire that consumed the cab of a big rig on the shoulder of northbound Interstate 5, north of Valencia Boulevard, in Valencia on Monday. Two engine companies were first called at 5:56 p.m. and knocked down the fire about five minutes after arrival, said Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Daryl Goulet. No other vehicles were involved, and there were no injuries, Goulet said.

Mars rover piques preschoolers' curiosity
