Commuter alert: I-5, Highway 14 lanes to close through Friday

SYLMAR - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the following lanes, ramps and connectors of the Golden State Freeway (I-5) and the Antelope Valley Freeway (SR-14) as part of a $161-million improvement project to construct high- occupancy vehicle (HOV or carpool) lanes and a direct HOV lane connector at the I-5/SR-14 interchange.

Living history: Heritage Junction

Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society docents led tours of the Saugus Train Station, the Kingsley House, the Edison House, a one-room schoolhouse, a tiny chapel and the Mitchell Adobe. Students dressed as children did in the past, the girls in pinafores and the boys in suspenders and caps. The field trip was the culmination of a "living history" unit, and all costs were paid for by a grant from Azusa Pacific College and the Southern California Historical Society.
