Supervisors approve motion to boost 'puppy mill' enforcement

LOS ANGELES COUNTY -- To reduce animal cruelty and high taxpayer costs associated with the over-breeding of pets at facilities commonly referred to as "puppy mills," the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion by Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich to investigate the need for more comprehensive laws to prevent irresponsible breeding in Los Angeles County.

"Many of these kennels endanger the health and welfare of these animals by housing them in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions without adequate veterinary care, food and water," Antonovich said. "Nearly 30,000 dogs and cats are euthanized every year in Los Angeles County."

"Today we started fractions. After we went to child care. I played outside. After they called me in for writing club, I met Mr. Charles. He talked about how to be a writer. He talked about his life. My favorite part was him talking about the inauguration. He showed us pictures. We all told our stories. I think it was the best day ever!"
