'Annie Get Your Gun'

Opening Night! I put on my western shirt and jeans, as did most of the other actors. We were about to perform the first of three evening showings of "Annie Get Your Gun," a musical taking place in the 1880's. It tells the story of a Wild West Show run by a man named Buffalo Bill and how a young woman named Annie Oakley joins the show and falls in love with their best sharpshooter, Frank Butler. Annie turns out to be a better shot than Frank, which causes some tension between them.

Teacher scores grant from Target

Rosedell Elementary teacher Kevin McGroary has received a $500 grant from the Target Field Trip Grants Program toward a field trip for his sixth-grade class. The grant covers transportation, supplies and equipment, resource materials and entry fees. Target's program aims to provide teachers with field trip funds to replace funds lost due to budget cuts.

SCV sinks business stormdrain fee

The city of Santa Clarita's Development Process Advisory Committee voted to remove its Stormdrain Transfer Deposit Fee to reduce the expenses of local businesses. The omitted fees will make city-based projects affordable for businesses. The decision to remove the fee stems from the city's acknowledgement of the economic hardships of local businesses.

Santa Clarita saw its worst drop in sales tax revenue ever in the fourth quarter of 2008 - a 15 percent plummet from the same period the year prior.

McKeon, McCarthy urge continued funding of Airborne Laser program

Smyth pushes for sales tax 'holiday' for Energy Star products

Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita, holds a press conference at 9:00 a.m on Friday, March 27 to announce the introduction of Assembly Bill 150, which if passed would provide a sales tax holiday for consumers who purchase products that carry the Energy Star designation.
