Antonovich calls state budget "raw deal"

Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich issued the following statement on the announcement of a state budget deal today.

"What was missing was a comprehensive package of structural reforms including eliminating or consolidating overlapping departments and high-paying political commissions -- limiting stipends for members of necessary commissions to $150 per meeting. Also needed is a 2-year state budget, a part-time legislature and abolishing term limits.

City plans road closures for Amgen Tour of California cycle race

With the arrival of Lance Armstrong and the world's top cyclists with the Amgen Tour of California on Saturday, February 21 at noon, residents should plan on traffic delays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on a handful of roadways within the City.

Because the event is a cycling road race, it is necessary to expect traffic modifications on select local streets to accommodate this world class event. These areas also comprise some of the best viewing places to watch the Amgen Tour of California in action as it races through the City.

California Legislature approves budget bill

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - The California Legislature passed a budget early today to help close a $42 billion deficit, ending an epic impasse that involved several all-night sessions and threatened to throw thousands of state employees out of work.

Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger praised the bill, passed by the Democratic-controlled Senate and Assembly. He came out of his office after the budget vote and disconnected a large deficit clock counting the number of days - 106 as of Thursday - that the Legislature had failed to act since he declared a special session to deal with the state's fiscal problems.
