Reject conservative extremism

Local paranoid "educators" like Lynn Vakay who gush about tea bag parties like some Mad Hatter character right out of "Alice in Wonderland" are another reminder to us all why conservatives have their history, their hearts, or their minds in the wrong place for America ("Right Here, Right Now," April 17).

Kaiser poll reveals shocking health care issues

As economic conditions remain poor, a majority of the public continues to say that they or a member of their household have delayed or skipped health care in the past year, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation's April health tracking poll.

Perhaps because Americans continue to struggle with the cost of medical care in their own lives, the country's overall economic problems have not dampened their interest in pursuing health care reform: a solid majority of the public (59%) believes health care reform is more important than ever, compared with the thirty-seven percent who say we can't ...

Review: 'Fighting'

I like the way the personalities are allowed to upstage the plot in "Fighting," a routine, three-act fight story that creates uncommonly interesting characters.

Review: 'Soloist'

"The Soloist" has all the elements of an uplifting drama, except for the uplift. The story is compelling, the actors are in place, but I was never sure what the filmmakers wanted me to feel about it. Based on a true story, it stars Jamie Foxx as Nathaniel Ayers, a homeless man who was once a musical prodigy, and Robert Downey Jr. as Steve Lopez, the Los Angeles Times columnist who writes a column about him, bonds with him, makes him famous, becomes discouraged by the man's mental illness and - what? Hears him play great music?

Busting misconceptions about investor perceptions

We all know that perception often influences our decisions, yet we catch ourselves and become reminded that what we perceive isn't always what's really going on. With the constant barrage of information available in today's 24/7 world, it's important to not get caught up in the day-to-day market volatility and news headlines.
