Rancho Pico Junior High named California Distinguished School

Michele Krantz, principal of Rancho Pico Junior High School, received a welcome phone call this week from State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell officially confirming that the Stevenson Ranch school is one of 261 California middle and high schools selected as 2009 California Distinguished Schools.

Sheriff's Dept. offers 'Parents' Guide to Teenage Parties and Dances'

Two years ago the city of Santa Clarita and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station launched an informational campaign to provide resources to parents, which will assist in planning, controlling and surviving a teen party.

As part of this awareness campaign, the city and Sheriff's Station jointly produced a "Parent Guide to Teenage Parties and Dances" brochure that assists parents in planning and organizing the event when it is hosted at their home. The information also provides tips when the party is held elsewhere, and what to consider with your teenager.

COC, city team for Earth Day 2009 art contest

This spring the College of the Canyons Sustainable Development Committee (SDC) is working with city of Santa Clarita officials to coordinate a 'Recycled Work of Art' contest - with entered pieces set to be presented at the community wide Earth Day Festival and 20th Annual Arbor Day Celebration Saturday April 18, at Central Park.
